Our first stop on this round of college visits was the Simmons School of Management at Simmons College, located right in the heart of Boston and bordering the lively Fenway neighborhood. It was a chilly but beautiful day as we headed across campus to the newly designed building that houses the School of Management. The new five-story building is very impressive, as well as environmentally friendly:

"From the use of sustainable and recyclable building materials, to highly efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and water fixtures, the new building is as environmentally responsible as it is eye-catching. The building is expected to use 34% less water and 38% less energy than similar buildings of the same size." - Simmons website

Melissa Terrio, Director of Admissions, and Colleen Regan, Associate Director of Admissions met us at the new building. During a productive meeting, we learned some interesting facts about the Simmons School of Management.

Simmons is ranked the #1 MBA for women and a Best Business School by The Princeton Review. The university has approximately 5,000 total students enrolled, with their MBA hosting between 50-70 students per year. They also offer a very popular Health Care MBA, enrolling approximately 50 students per class. The business school has two MBA intakes, one in the Fall and one in the Spring.

Contrary to popular belief and despite being a women's school, most graduate programs at Simmons are actually co-ed!

Here are some more fun facts about the Simmons School of Management:

  • Part-time students and full-time MBA students follow the same curriculum and can swap from one to the other. Some students have gone back and forth a few times!
  • The CEO of Starwood hotels is a Simmons graduate.
  • Hilary Clinton will be coming to speak at Simmons in a few weeks for the Women in Leadership Conference April 22-23!
